Enjoying Fine Wine With Diabetes

I believed enjoying Fine Wine with diabetes was impossible because it contained too much sugar and carbohydrates. I asked my endocrinologist, and she made my day when she told me that, in moderation, I could enjoy a glass or two of wine every day. Wine is a relatively low-sugar drink, while wine coolers (which contain juice) and other flavored wine drinks tend to be sweeter, often with higher sugar and calorie content. In almost all cases, though, the sugar content of wine is unlikely to

affect a person’s daily sugar intake significantly.

Alcohol is a relatively high-calorie drink, particularly because it has no nutritional value.

For example, a 5-oz serving of red wine contains about 128 calories. Drinking several glasses of wine daily can increase the calories a person consumes, potentially leading to weight gain and alcohol dependence.

Drinking red wine in small doses is better than not drinking at all!

It might come as a surprise, but several human trial studies have shown moderate red wine consumption to be better for you than not drinking. Why? The antioxidants found in red wine lower incidences of cardiovascular disease, mortality, and type-2 diabetes. Of course, if you drink more than you’re supposed to, the benefits are replaced by increased health risks. So, do yourself a favor, and drink red wine in moderation.

Now I have two 5-ounce glasses of wine daily without any noticeable effect on my blood sugar levels. I sincerely wish that if you are diabetic, your associated medical conditions do not prohibit you from being a wine enthusiast.

When enjoying Fine Wine with Diabetes, remember Medical News Today says:

Most people with diabetes can drink alcohol, including wine. As long as they have no other medical condition that makes drinking unsafe. Red wine may even offer some protective health benefits in small quantities. However, alcohol dependence can be perilous for people with diabetes. The complications of one condition can intensify those of the other.

It is highly recommended that you consult a medical professional if you have diabetes before consuming wine or any other alcoholic beverage!

As a diabetic you can enjoy Fine Wine too.

Now I am a member of a wine club that provides me with fine wine every month. You can find more details and join here. The membership cost is much less than the value of the wine I receive. I invite you to join my wine club.
